Meet Amy!
Hello and welcome! I am a psychologist who offers support to children, teens, and adults in Calgary and online throughout Alberta. I provide a supportive space for children and teens to talk and learn new ways to cope. I also conduct a variety of assessments to help you gain a greater understanding of how you or your child learns while giving you strategies to enhance school success.
I earned my Master of Education in School and Child Psychology from the University of Calgary and am trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I have also completed additional education at the Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute, where I obtained a certificate in play therapy, and hold a Post-Master's Certificate in Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice from New York University.
Prior to entering private practice, I worked for several years as a psychologist at the Calgary Board of Education. I have also worked with families receiving assistance through Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) and supported adults through the Never Too Late Program at Catholic Family Services.
I have experience in assessment and counselling for ADHD, learning disorders, intellectual disorders, giftedness, behavioural difficulties, trauma, and emotional concerns.
As a mom myself, I understand the unique challenges and joys that come with parenting, and I bring this empathy and experience into my practice.
I look forward to meeting you!

Shawna Cunha, MEd, MA
Registered Provisional Psychologist

Meet Shawna!
I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist who brings nearly two decades of experience supporting adolescents, families, and educators. After spending 19 years as a middle school teacher, I transitioned into mental health work and began practicing full-time in December 2024. My extensive background in education - including several years supporting schools in part-time mental health roles - offers me a unique and insightful perspective when working with youth, parents, and adults navigating life’s challenges.
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and a Master of Education from the University of Calgary. I practice from a client-centered, trauma-informed, and strengths-based lens, integrating evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and somatic approaches. I have also completed EMDR Training and am now offering EMDR therapy within her clinical work.
I support adolescents and adults experiencing a range of concerns, including:
Anxiety and depression
Emotional dysregulation
ADHD and executive functioning difficulties
Stress and burnout
Grief and loss
Relationship and communication challenges
Life transitions and identity development
Given my extensive history in schools, I am particularly skilled in supporting teens and young adults with academic stress, peer conflict, self-worth challenges, and the pressures of high achievement. I have significant experience with ADHD and help both youth and adults build strategies for healthier routines, motivation, organization, and relationships.
My therapeutic approach emphasizes connection, emotional safety, and collaboration. I integrate mindfulness, breathwork, and holistic wellness practices to support mind–body balance and long-term resilience. I am also working toward certification in Animal-Assisted Therapy, inspired by my belief in the healing role of nature and animals.
Outside the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. I can usually be found outdoors - walking dogs, exploring nature, or volunteering with local animal rescues—which brings grounding and balance to my personal and professional life.
